The Grand Mosque of Colombo’s existence dates to the 1505 when Portuguese first anchored in Colombo Bay, witnessing two lime-washed mosques. The mosque was swiftly rebuilt on the same site after a raid in 1520 destroyed the town. Today, the Grand Mosque is considered one of Sri Lanka’s oldest and most important religious structures
